The 24th annual Curl for Cancer chaired by
Sean Gormley took place on Feb 7. The event was held in memory of
Dot LeLacheur. Dot was involved in the Curl for Cancer bonspiel right
from the beginning in 1991. She volunteered for 10 years and retired in
2001. She was a dedicated fixture in the Sackville Curling Club where she
assisted in many curling clinics, held office as President and was the umpire
for the Happy Hearts Bonspiel for 29 years.
The event was a great success with 30 teams and over 100 people participating. A total of $14,700 was raised (with contributions still trickling in) for the Canadian Cancer Society. SCC member Frank Oulton was once again the highest individual fundraiser with $1000. The money raised for the event stays right here, helping to pay for wigs, and services for people living with cancer in NB. The first place team was the MTA Biology department biohazards, consisting of Erin Penney, Rob Ireland, Jamie Patterson & Tim Roberts. Best dressed team Happy Hooters led by SCC member Keith Donnell are pictured at the left.
The Curl for Cancer planning committee would like to thank all of the volunteers, companies that donated food/prizes and corporate sponsors for their hard work. A special thanks goes out to Bill & Sonia Buchanan who volunteered at the bar and will be retiring this year, as well as Myles Trenholm and Gerry Goddard for preparing the ice.
Retirement congratulations to Bill and Sonia
SCC’s annual pub night was held on February 28th -- the usual fun party with lots of good snacks, good music by Free Fall, and (good?) jokes by MC Don MacIntyre. Final winners, splitting the grand prize of $1000, were Frank Oulton and Jean Hart. Organizers included Gloria Turner, Helen Dickie, Don and Sharon MacIntyre and many others who sold tickets, helped with food and kitchen, etc.
February 11th was the 30th anniversary of the Happy Hearts Bonspiel organized annually by the SCC Morning Ladies on the Wednesday preceding Valentines Day. Decorations and dress definitely reflected a Valentines theme. The appropriately named Jean Hart chaired the Happy Hearts committee this year.
From Jean's report:
The bonspiel included teams from Sussex, Curl Moncton, Rexton, Amherst, Pugwash and Truro. Top team this year was from Rexton with team members Jeannine Hannay, Camilla Vautour , Mariette Demers and Sharron Demchuk.
In second place was a team from Curl Moncton consisting of Laurie Donaher, Anne MacSheffery Paula Graves, and Carla LeBlanc.
Third place was also captured by a Curl Moncton team and fourth place went to a team from Pugwash.
The draw to the button winner was Theresa Rushton (Pugwash).
Happy Hearts gratefully acknowledges donations from FRS Flooring Solutions, Blooms and Jean Coutu Pharmacy.
Myles and Gerry provided the usual great ice, and Dianne Melanson, Marilyn Goodwin, Mary Carter and Tami Puddicomb lunch and dinner supplies.

From the McLellen Cup report submitted by co-coordinators Stephen Wells and Scott Cushing:
The 2015 McLellan Cup challenge was held at the SCC on Feb. 18, 2015 with Windsor CC going home with the cup. Three Sackville teams participated with skips Lovitt Allen, Don Dickie and Stephen Wells. The many volunteers (bar, icemaking, kitchen and supplies) made this event a success.
Club Closing: March 28
