2015/6 Registration

As well as mail in registration, in person registration was held at the SCC the evenings of October 13 and 15.  Our membership director Tom Trueman reports that our membership numbers are about the same as last year.  Welcome to new members and good curling!

Ice goes in for the 2015/6 season

Curling at the SCC is now well underway and practices even began a little earlier than usual this year with the ice being  in the last week in October.  Myles and his helpers flooded, painted, nipped and sprayed to create the great ice we enjoy.  Thanks to everyone who lent a hand.  But what will we do as an excuse for missing shots?

A Welcome Back Social was held on Sunday, Nov 1, to watch the Men's Masters Curling final. About a dozen people turned up to throw some rocks and watch the match. Nick kindly tended bar for us.  There was lots of positive feedback so watch for future similar events.

Christmas Craft Sale and Dessert Cafe

The annual Christmas Craft Sale and Dessert Cafe was held on Friday Oct 30 and Saturday Oct 31.  This event was again a big success and outstanding fundraiser with over $3000 raised for the club.  For some inspiring pictures of the craft tables (and the desserts) see https://www.facebook.com/Sackvillecraftshowanddessertcafe .  Organizing committee for this undertaking was:  Uta Bartlett, Judi Maclellen, Helen Dickie, Elaine Smith and Sheila Reyno.  Thanks to the many volunteers who baked and donated desserts, worked in the kitchen, on the door and did the heavy lifting.

Juniors cashspiel

The weekend of November 7th, a successful junior cash spiel was held at SCC.  More on this event in the December newsletter.

A curling clinic especially for new members was held just before regular curling began at the beginning of November.     A second clinic for new and returning members was held on Saturday November 14th from1  to 3 pm.  Thanks to the volunteer instructors who help us hone our skills.  Watch for future clinics.
